What are the Amazon ads on the right-hand column of the page?

The ads you see on the right-hand column of some pages are part of a series of tests that BigTent will be conducting with amazon.com. The products displayed in the ads are matched against specific keywords in order to display a relevant list of products.

We are testing these ads on all our Classifieds pages and on a limited number of Reviews pages (specifically in the Automotive, Books, Electronics, Personal Care, and Shopping categories). In both the Classifieds and Reviews areas, the products displayed in the Amazon ads are matched against category and product titles on the page that you're viewing. For example, if you're visiting BigTent Classifieds and viewing products in the electronics category, the Amazon ad will display items from Amazon's electronics category. Be assured that, per our privacy policy, BigTent will never share personally identifiable information with Amazon or anyone else.

All items displayed in BigTent's Amazon ads are new. If you find otherwise, please email us at ads-feedback@bigtent.com with the name of the product and the price that was displayed. We do not intend these new Amazon products to compete with items you and other group members are trying to sell through your group's classifieds area. From experience, we believe that most products group members try to sell will be used. This means your prices will be lower than the prices for the new products displayed in the Amazon ads, and should sell first.

As part of this test, we encourage all members to submit feedback. We'd like to learn more about whether the display of Amazon products will significantly impact purchase activity, and if it does, we'll work to modify the ads accordingly.
