How do I join a subgroup?

If your group has any subgroups, you can find ones you'd like to join by going to my groups > [group name] > subgroups.

Here you'll see any subgroups you can join. Some subgroups will allow you request an invite and join right away, while others may require administrative approval before you can finish signing up. Click "learn more" or "learn more & join" to find out more about the subgroup or to join the subgroup right away.


If this subgroup is open to new members, click "Request an Invitation" to join the group immediately. If the group requires your membership form to be approved by a group leader, you'll see "Request an Invitation." Click this to be emailed a link to enroll in this subgroup. You can also begin the enrollment process right away by clicking "To view your invitation and beging the enrollment process, click here." Follow the instructions to sign up for the group. Your membership form may first need to be reviewed by a subgroup leader before you will be added to the group.


Some subgroups are closed to new members. They will be indicated with a lock icon. Clicking "learn more" will take you to a page with more information about the subgroup but you will not be able to join. Some subgroups are closed because they have reached a maximum capacity of members. Others are closed to all but members of the advisory board or leadership team. If you have additional questions about your group's subgroups or requirements to join, please contact your group's leaders for more information.

Overview: Subgroups

Subgroups are smaller groups within your group that organize members around a special interest (e.g., a hobby club or playgroup) and keep the main group focused on events and discussions that are relevant to everyone. Subgroups can have their own forums, events, news, polls, and all the other features of a main group.

Because subgroups are smaller and more intimate, members often choose to share more information with subgroup members than with the top-level group.

Examples of subgroups include a board or steering committee, classrooms or grades, book clubs, or playgroups. You can see a list of your group's subgroups by going to the "subgroups" tab.

How do I join a subgroup?

Will I get even more email when I join a subgroup?

Do I have to join a subgroup?

All groups are set up differently, and while most groups have some optional interest subgroups you can join, some top-level groups have little activity but have very active subgroups. Contact your group's leaders if you have questions.

How do I leave my group or subgroup?

You can either temporarily or permanently terminate your membership with your group at any time. Once you do this, you will no longer be a part of the group and will no longer receive emails or other communications from your group on BigTent.


To temporarily suspend your membership (e.g., if you're going on vacation for a month and don't want to get group emails while you're gone), simply follow these steps:

* Sign in to BigTent and go to my bigtent > settings > membership info.
* Find the group or subgroup in question and click "suspend membership" under the group or subgroup name.
* To reinstate yourself, simply click "resume membership."



To permanently remove yourself from a group and immediately cancel your membership:

* Go to settings > membership info.
* Click "leave group" under the group or subgroup name.
* Once you confirm that you want to leave the group, you will be removed from it immediately.

Please note: This action cannot be undone. If you leave the group by mistake, you will need to request to join again, and may need to pay an additional membership fee. Contact your group's leaders for further info.
